Ahh podcasts, one of the great entertainment that emerged from the 2010s. From true crime listens like Serial to podcasts centering around unique stories, there is almost a podcast for everyone
I first started listening to podcasts my freshman year of high school, usually afterschool when I'm doing my homework, I love plugging in some earphones and jamming to them. I really wanted to listen something interesting and smart, so I started on a podcast celled Revisionist History and Lore. (still love them!).
Now I'm usually listening to more political/current events podcasts. So here are some of my favorite podcasts of all time!
1) The Daily by the New York Times : informative and relevant, the Daily is a daily news podcasts that combines great journalism with audio storytelling.
2) Pod Save America & The Wilderness by Crooked Media: These former Obama staffers dive into American politics. ALthough progressive, there aren't afraid to criticize both sides for what went wrong in 2016 and how we move forward. The Wilderness specifically focuses on the Democratic Party while PSA is a weekly podcast on current events.
3) Worldly by Vox: Another in depth podcast on foreign policy.
4) Today, Explained by Vox: A daily news podcast (i seriously need to stop)
5) Lovett or Leave It by Crooked Media: PSA's host Jon Lovett hosts a weekend comedy-news podcast. Released every Saturday, the podcast tells the news through a laughter with other amazing comedians and experts. All episodes are tape in front of a live audience.
6) Pod Save the People by Crooked Media: Focused on talking about societal issues--particularing issues surrounding people of color and marginalized groups.
7) Caliphate by the New York Times: This podcast shows the amazing ability of audio journalism and storytelling.. We follow NYT journalist R.Callimachi as she goes into war-torn Syria and Iraq to tell the story of an ex-ISIS fighter. (Caution: some scenes are hard to listen and parts have violence)
8)Hysteria by Crooked Media (yes, again): Funny podcasts hosted by women, about women and politics.
9)Serial by This American Life: I actually first heard this podcast years ago but I didn't listen to it until I was forced by my criminal law teacher in class. Really enjoyed the first season where we follow a high school murder. There are 12 episodes and each are pretty exciting to listen.
10) Books Unbound: Hosted by two lovely online readers, hosts Ariel and Raeleen talks about what they're currently reading and some good'o recommendation for y'all book lovers!
*you can find most of these podcasts anywhere you get your podcasts: Apple Podcast, Spotify, Stitcher, IHeartradio, Google Podcasts.
